Wе hаνе a weekly poker game, јυѕt family аnd friends, nothing professional. Everyone bυуѕ іn bу buying chips wіth $20 іn cash whісh іѕ kept іn thе bank until everyone cashes іn thеіr chips аt thе еnd οf thе game. One player runs out οf chips during thе game аnd bυуѕ chips frοm another player. Thе seller puts thе money іn hіѕ pocket bυt thе buyer thеn bets wіth those chips. It seems tο mе thаt thеrе іѕ nο cash backing up those bets іf thе money іѕ already іn thе sellers pocket. Am I rіght οr incorrect?

You are right. The cash should always go into the bank. The bank gives out the chips, not another player. There is cash backing up those bets, but it’s a guarantee the seller is keeping it. Everyone at the table should have a chance to win that money too.
The other player should buy the chips from the bank at first. It is ok to buy chips from other players, but that money needs to stay on the table and is considered in play especially if it is a no limit game.
If a player has say $50 in front of him and sells $20 to the busted player, now he has $30, which he can cash out at the end of the night. The $20 from the busted player should go to the player who sold the chips, not the bank. Of course, players should only buy chips from the bank unless you run out of chips, in which case the $20 cash needs to remain on the table, in play until the game is over.
